Description

Flexible shifts at local venues, with guaranteed pay.

Context

Tamm is a mobile app for people in Libya who want to work in their free time. They find short shifts at cafés, restaurants, event halls, stores and warehouses, book the ones that suit them, and get paid through the app.

Problem

People who want to work in their free time have no reliable way to find short shifts. They don't know exactly what a shift involves, who they will work for, or when they will actually get paid.

Venues like cafés and restaurants also need extra staff at short notice, and have no simple way to find people they can trust.

Process

I designed the whole app in four weeks, in Arabic and right to left from the start, using Figma and Claude.

  1. Mapped the worker's journey from sign-up to payday, in ten flows.

  2. Built a shared component library, like shift cards, stat tiles and sheets, so every screen stays consistent.

  3. Designed every state, not just the happy path: empty, loading, offline, errors and rejections.

  4. Ended with over 300 screens across the ten flows.

Solution

Tamm takes a worker through the whole shift, from finding it to getting paid.

  1. Discover: shifts nearby by category, day, pay and role, with the venue, hours and pay up front.

  2. Apply: each shift lists its requirements, uniform and tasks, so workers know exactly what to expect.

  3. Shift day: check in and out by scanning the venue's code, with location as a backup.

  4. Pay: held in escrow once a shift is confirmed, in the wallet within 48 hours of the shift ending, then out to the bank.

Key Insights

Trust decided most of the design. Pay is visible at every step, from the shift card to the wallet, so workers know what they will earn and when.

Workers also see their own record, like attendance, punctuality and late cancellations, and how it is counted.

In short, Tamm should feel fair, clear and predictable for everyone who uses it.
