Description

Weather in Libya, made simple: accurate forecasts in Arabic.

Context

Shin Aljaw is Libyan for "what's the weather?". It's a weather app built for Libya: accurate forecasts with the details that matter, alerts when the weather changes, and help planning outdoor activities, trips and the farming and fishing seasons.

Problem

People in Libya plan a lot of their life around the weather, like trips, camping, fishing and farming. Weather apps give them a number, but not in their language and not with what they actually need to plan their day.

Process

I designed the whole product in Figma: the mobile app, a desktop version and a landing page.

  1. Onboarding: sign up with a phone number, then the location, the units and the activities people care about.

  2. A home screen whose look follows the weather: sunny, hot, night and rainy.

  3. A 14-day forecast and a detail screen for temperature, humidity, wind, UV and pressure.

  4. Menu sections for the traditional calendar, activities, sea status and the seasons.

Solution

One app that tells people what the weather is and what it means for their plans.

Alerts come when the weather changes in their area, with tips like what to wear. People add their outdoor activities, like safari trips, camping and walking, and the app tells them when the day suits them. It also covers the farming and fishing seasons.

Key Insights

Local comes first: the name and the copy use everyday Libyan Arabic, and features like the traditional calendar and sea status cover what general weather apps leave out.
